The more north you live from the equator, the higher the need for you to wear sunscreen. Many people from the subcontinent who are in US/Cananda wear it and so should you.
btw, sorry to hear about the bicyclist who got “doored”. I always double check into the car when I pass parked cars; and I maintain distance. It is better to be paranoid than injured.
