The Inquirer published their report on Philadelphia Homicides this year. (Thanks J!) Some numbers to remember:
- 333 is the number of homicides in Philadelphia this year.
- 17 of those deaths were folks 17 or younger.
- 128 were between 18-25
- 259 of the people who died were African American.
- 277 of the homicides were caused by firearms.
We can win the World Series. Bring back French cuisine to Rittenhouse Square via Stephen Starr’s Parc. Build the largest skyscraper in our city via Brian Robert’s Comcast Building. Stop wearing suit coats at Le Bec Fin. Help to elect the first black president in America. Keep libraries from closing. Indict Fumo.
It’s time to work on this problem.
What’s your proposed solution? There are a buttload of dumbass ideas out there on how to solve this one. i.e. stop-and-frisk? Not the fucking answer.
How about we cease our march toward a fascist police state and put more money into education? Public schools! Public colleges! Long-term solutions!
