Only 24 days till Valentine’s Day

z112I came across the perfect Valentine’s Day event for a certain someone and their sweetheart. (*Hint, hint, cough, cough.) But all of you are welcome to come along.

The Blue Cross River Rink is holding a Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Skate
February 14, 8:30 – 10:30 PM. Tickets are $15 and will be available in advance, includes DJ entertainment and keepsakes
Tickets on sale January 20

Sounds ideal. Now if only the folks at the River Rink could buy me some perfume and shower me with chocolates, everything would be perfect.

Reppin’ Philly Shyamalan-style

z111Ever wanted to be in a movie? Now’s your chance. Thanks to Temple’s Chris Stover for posting this.

May I have some Urdu, please?

z1So how hard can it be for a girl to learn her native language, you ask?  Quite difficult, as I found out this past week. Here’s the deal. I really, really, really want to learn to read/write/speak Urdu. More speak, the writing/reading I could care less about.  I want to learn it for my own reasons, but learning Urdu couldn’t hurt if I ever wanted to work for the FBI.  (“The Philadelphia Division is actively looking for Albanian, Urdu, and Farsi speakers.”) Problem is, my parents are too busy to teach me and local class offerings on Urdu are almost nonexistent. I could go the book/online route, but I’m more of a class person. I ran into couple of dead ends before finding an Urdu course offered at UPenn. Then I found out that registering to audit a course for no credit cost the equivalent of $2400. Insanity! I might as well refresh my French for $165 via Temple’s Center City courses. Ugh. One more reason to hate UPenn.
