A bunch of folks were outraged after reading my post last Sunday. Last Wednesday, Brendan Calling wrote:
“Until i read an update at Phillygrrl, I have one thing to say to Thunderturd lanes: there are plenty of other bowling alleys in Philadelphia.”
Well, here’s the update folks. No response. That’s right. Despite my readers assuring me they sent the link to Thunderbird Lanes. Despite repeated dialogue between Thunderbird Lanes via this site, I didn’t receive one email from anybody at Thunderbird Lanes. Not one. Seriously all I want is a simple, “Sorry your visit sucked” email. Is it too much to ask?
So I guess I have to do it their way. “Please contact the bowling center directly so that we can rectify the situation ASAP.” Sigh. Not really looking forward to this. I really don’t wish to speak to any of the rude folks at that alley. Perhaps I’ll contact the folks Mithras tracked down for me. I’ve probably dragged my feet on this thing so long, they probably forgot about it. Good thing I didn’t.
There is a story about the flea fucking the elephant. The flea is back there giving her hell screaming “Suffer, Bitch!”. But the reality is the elephant was not even aware he was there.
And that’s what explains the non-response. You are the flea.
they’re affiliated with AMF, a major bowlign corporation. Contact them and complain.

that’s what i would do: be specific. I am positive you will get relief: every major company has rules about diversity and more importantly, NONDISCRIMINATION. My bet is you will get satisfaction, and thunderturd may be forced to not only apologize in writing but also to give you some free bowling.
let me know how it goes.
Just curious; why do you believe you are entitled to an email from this company? You right away assumed you were unable to get bowling lanes because you showed up with “brown kids”. Anybody who bowls, knows that day is a league day, and most of the time there is not open bowling. Unfortunately, you might have had an idiot on the phone who gave you the wrong information when you called. But, to automatically accuse them of racism is irresponsible and audacious. If I were them, I would seek legal council about a slander lawsuit if your blog post has cost them any business. Not everything is a race issue, and to outright blame a company for racism because you could not bowl is sad. They responded to your post and suggested you contact them. You have chosen not to. Your problem, not theirs.
It’s nice to have a balanced perspective, thanks for your comments, B.
I have contacted them. Twice. Still waiting for a response.
I do think anyone running/managing a business should want to treat their customers with respect. It’s simply a good business practice.
And if I have an Oprah-like ability to affect someone’s business , then I am truly flattered.
Although if they’re just as rude to everyone else, then any drop in business revenues might have to do more with their customer relations issues……
I bowl and I have never heard that sunday is league day. anjd if what you’re saying is true, someone ought to update tbird’s website:
http://phillybowl.net/nephilly.aspx
there is nothign about sunday being reserved for leagues on their site. All it says is “Most of the BOWLING LEAGUES at Thunderbird Lanes happen on a certain day and time each week”, but it doesn’t say which day or time, leading me to believe there are a variety of times available. There is no calendar stating that “sunday is league day” either.
I call bullshit on bugger
and after rereading the original post, I call double bullshit on you bugger.
there is nothing slanderous about what PG writes, nothing. i think this is an intimidation tactic, and that’s shameful.
I agree with you phillygrrl. The customer service is obviously crap if you contacted them twice with no response. I think posting that issue is completely valid. I just took slight issue with the racial overtones that were implied in the post.
As for B.C. comments. Here are my examples;
“Because if you walk into Thunderbird Lanes with a group of brown kids from your church’s youth group on a Sunday and they tell you all the lanes are booked, even though there are clearly 20+ lanes available, you’ll need a backup plan.”
“And when you tell the manager and his employee, both who are clearly panicking at the influx of brown kids,”
Those examples are clearly stating that phillygrrl and her youth group were denied bowling rights due to the color of the kids skin. As I stated, those comments are irresponsible with no obvious truth to back them up. Im not sure how much you bowl but you are obviously unaware that many leagues take place on Sunday. They should post their league schedule so that people are aware of those practices, and they should also get employees that are competent and are aware of the schedules. But to use that as a racial issue is really grasping at straws. Sorry you don’t agree. Triple bullshit on BC
“Anybody who bowls, knows that day is a league day, and most of the time there is not open bowling. Unfortunately, you might have had an idiot on the phone who gave you the wrong information when you called.”
Yeah that is funny. Because if anyone knew what day was league day, it wouldn’t be the bowling alley, right?
To pb:
Most bowling centers have open bowling in the morning, then have leagues about noon or so. If phillygrrl had called in the morning, they may have told her their were plenty of lanes. If she then showed up 1/2 to an hour before leagues, they would have denied her. They should have told her what time leagues started. Anyway, not really the point is it. The point is were the “brown kids” denied bowling because they were brown. Possible, but highly doubtful.
Okay, B, here’s a new one. Don’t go to the Thunderbird Lanes in Willow Grove because of oboxious/rude staff. How’s that?
I like it
im not surprised phillygrrl contacted amf and got no response twice. its the wrong company. good thing you’re going to law school, maybe they can teach you how to do appropriate research
I’m curious how someone going by the name curious wasn’t curious enough to do the appropriate research as well and read the follow-up post, entitled, Did you REALLY just say that to me?
Here’s a little taste:
You can read how it went down by researching that link I gave you.
why dont you ask phillygrrl herself who she contacted twice before she contacted the correct person before you post the incorrect information
