Makes me incredibly angry.

“I am so sick of people playing the blame game for the economic crisis that we’re are in. No it was not entirely Bush’s fault. Ok maybe he wasn’t one of the greatest president but he got us through some pretty tough times. But this is not a group about George W. Bush. That fact is that the moron Bill Clinton opened up free trade to China, causing the deflation of prices. Not only that, he took away all the jobs by doing this. Bush was just left with the mess that Clinton made. But the real problem at hand are these illegal immigrents coming in. They take all of our jobs, theydon’t have to pay taxes, or medicare. This is complete BULL and has to be stopped. Not only with the illegal hispanics but other immigrants coming from all around the world. For instance my sister is in pharmacy school and probably 90% of the student population is Indian. So either they are taking all of those jobs or drug companies (along with many others) are starting to outsource their companies in countries where they can hire employees for very cheap…again taking away all of our jobs. I say we close off our borders and reset our country because our situation is not going to get any better until we do something different. How about the United States worries about itself for a change before we go offering job opportunites to third world countries. I don’t want this group to come off looking like a bunch of racists or selfish people, but ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.”
I have multiple, multiple problems with Mr. John Applegate’s group, statements and the folks who joined this group.
But you’re going to say, “Phillygrrl, these kinds of groups exist in the zillions? Why is this particular group targeted for your disdain?” (And honestly, it’s ridiculous that I’m giving them free publicity. You know there were going to be all of five members before this post.)
I’ll tell you why. Because this was created by students from Eastern University. I have family who graduated from Eastern. I feel invested in this university. Especially since multiple Indian folks from my church have either graduated or intend to matriculate at Eastern University. It’s purported as a Christian university. Now I know the bad PR Christianity has been getting for the past 1000+ years. But I work very very hard to change the negative stereotypes surrounding Christians in modern-day America. If so-called Christian folks in the Philadelphia area want to have the discussion about immigrants, I say let’s have it. I’m incredibly proud of what the South Asian community has accomplished both here in Philadelphia and the rest of the world. What’s your problem with successful Indians like myself? Do tell me now. I don’t want my kids dealing with it later.
If you hate people who hate ILLEGAL ALIENS, you’ll love me!
Now I can’t say the ILLEGAL ALIENS are completely to blame for the shape of our economy, but they are a BIG part of the problem. The ILLEGAL ALIENS send BILLIONS upon BILLIONS out of this Country every year, money we will NEVER see again. Does this help our economy?
How about the BILLIONS the American taxpayers fork out for the ANCHOR BABIES, the schooling of them, the medical care and the list goes on, and on, and on.
How about the MILLIONS upon MILLIONS paid to jail ILLEGAL ALIENS for the crimes, then the cost to deport them. Does this help our economy?
Then you have these activist groups, the Catholic Church and the ACLU that want AMNESTY for these ILLEGAL ALIENS. It would be absolute suicide for this Country if AMNESTY were granted to the 20 million or so ILLEGAL ALIENS. We have more and more people out of work everyday and they want to add another 20 million to this Country? I say, “NO”!
If AMNESTY were ever granted to these 20 million ILLEGAL ALIENS, you can bet big money that 3 years from now, there would be ANOTHER 3-5 million ILLEGAL ALIENS demonstrating on our soil for AMNESTY.
An end MUST come to this illegal immigration. The perfect tool we have so far is E-Verify. It MUST be used by ALL businesses and Government Social Services. EVERY employee must be checked! If they are illegal, they are to be dismissed!
I believe it is time for all 50 States to pass a State law, like Arizona, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina and a few others. It is time for these ILLEGAL ALIENS to go back to their home Country and get out of this Country. The problems they are causing will not go away until the ILLEGAL ALIENS are out of this Country. I think that is plain to see.
Finally. try this link incase you missed it.
NO ILLEGAL ALIEN HAS A RIGHT TO BE IN THIS COUNTRY FOR ANY REASON!
Funny how people are still haters of “immigrants” in this country, considering that ALL of us are immigrants, unless you choose to mention the forgotten original inhabitants of this country, the First Nations. Of course, we took their land and pushed them to the side and the margins, destroyed much of their culture and 300+ langugages, but you know–somehow that’s okay. EVERY single new immigrant to this country represents what this country is. The culture of fear and rampant individualism in our country these days has created all this anti-immigrant sentiment. It’s so sad. But this country continues to prove that it will move on in spite of our prejudices and ignorance. The generations to come will witness a continued global community of many languages, cultures, cuisines, music, and history. What a thrill to live in that kind of community.
Delaware Bob, I’d be interested in what you have to say about skilled immigrants who are in this country legally. Sans the capitol letters if you like.
Wow–while I was chilled by what I have read, I realize that we all must be sanguine about the world we are living in today. The only sane response that I can come up with is to stay in relationship, speak slowly and clearly, and to convey our values in ways that will abide. For me, this means: respond to hate with compassion and understanding, reason with firmness about one’s convictions, and stick-to-it-tiveness that doesn’t let up. That is the essence of the nonviolent heritage of Ghandi, King, and Romero. La lucha continua!
… wait, you’re Indian?
(Delaware Bob, please stop shouting. It’s rude and it alienates the persons you are trying to sway.)
It has been my experience that pesons who rant and rave about illegal immigrants do so because they know it is not politically acceptable to rant and rave about all furriners.
It’s not the terminology that gives them away. It’s the ranting and raving.
I discussed that here.
Raymond looked at the facts, as opposed to the nativist spin, here.
Thom, you’re absolutely correct. I wrote in anger. In hindsight, I wouldn’t have used “hate” in the title of this post. Let’s just say “I have a problem with viewpoints that I believe hurt my community and the global community at large.”

Note: There is one degree of separation between myself and this group.
so any bets on whether Delaware Bob’s missing a few chromosomes?
and has bob ever been to riverside NJ, where they successfully drove out the brazilian immigrants?
any guess how that ended up for Riverside?
Not so well: the town’s economy collapsed.
Kishwer:
There’s nothing wrong with righteous rage! It’s just that it probably won’t get us to the next place. . .
Thom :-)
well… as a california boy i would like to say one thing. illegal immagrants from mexico are awesome. they make great food. they do the work that noone else wants to do. and they keep most of out neighborhoods clean. i know that might sound mean but hey… thats life in cali. im sure its the same in other places too.
Generally speaking (and by generally, I’m referring to the human animal’s penchant for – and apparent comfort with – absurdity), Douglas Adams said it best: In the beginning the Universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.
So, Bob, how about you tell us how you REALLY feel!
Hahahahaha.
