My Philadelphia Story

Dev Patel, Slumdog Millionaire, blah, blah, blah

May 18, 2009 · 11 Comments

Okay, I didn’t want to have to do this. (Yes, I did.) But it seems like certain kids are not convinced that Dev Patel is actually here in Philadelphia. And while I didn’t take any photos/get an autograph/scream & gawk like a little kid, most everyone else did. So here we go. Without further ado, photos from last Thursday’s event (featuring Falu!) at North Star Bar, via Jennifer Kohanim. And after this Dev Patel hype dies down, hopefully we can go back to talking more about Falu (who is incredible!).

Sorry to hijack this post with my following comment, but I have to let it out.

Nothing against Dev Patel, but I already hate this stupid live action film.

Can’t even cast enough Asians. Mostly only the lesser roles are given to people of Asian (and when I mean Asian, I mean the wide Asian continent) descent

The one main role given to an Asian doesn’t even fit (Sorry. I don’t see Dev Patel as Zuko.)

Falu? Dev Patel? How about Aasif Mandvi!?!?! He’s a riot on the Daily Show and you didn’t even mention him!

Haha, you’re right Bob. To tell you the truth, even the guys at the show were raving about him, but I don’t really watch that show, so I didn’t really get the fuss. (And for that matter, when I first Googled him, I couldn’t even find anything b/c I totally misspelled his name *blush.)

But thanks for pointing it out!

Good catch Bob! I’m a Daily Show disciple and I completely missed that. The best I could do is, “That guy looks awfully familiar.”

wait he’s playing Zuko? …. Dragonball all over again? i think so.

    I’m with Bob.

I’ve been a big fan of Aasif Mandvi since he first appeared on TDS (he first played the Daily Show’s Middle East Correspondent & also did a “Gates of Hell” skit saying that they were located in Philly — or South Jersey).

Pop culture references can go totally over my head. That’s what happens when your parents don’t have a TV until you’re in high school. They did just get cable, however, so I plan on catching up.

Phillygrrl, you are missing out if you’ve never seen Aasif Mandvi’s Daily Show skits.

    Really.

Plus gotta love the shout outs he gives us Indians and Desis.

And yes, thebooger, Dev Patel’s playing Zuko. I’m so bummed over all of it.

Hmm, I’ll think about it :p
