Why Family Planning?

May2 016

So why ‘Family Planning’? Why not ‘Birth Control’? I’m guessing ‘Family Planning’ is merely a euphemism. But I still never understood the term ‘Family Planning.’ Shouldn’t it be ‘Pregnancy Planning.’ Or ‘Baby Planning.’ Or ‘Child Planning.’ Why is it all about families? Continue reading

I want to be buried here

This past Saturday, I found myself at a country graveyard in New Holland, PA. I was visiting friends who moved from Philadelphia to the area. Turns out they live on a farm. A farm with a gorgeous grave yard.  Reminded me of this Thomas Gray poem. I want to be buried here. Seriously, do you think a Pennsylvania Dutch graveyard would have room for PG? Quotable Quotes from Brian Tierney vs. Will Bunch

And more in the John Yoo saga. My favorite lines from today’s WHYY Radio Times discussion featuring Brian Tierney and Will Bunch. (I left out the parts where Tierney spelled out philly.com three times.)

Brian Tierney says:

“I suggested John Yoo, but in the end it’s Harold Jackson who runs the editorial page.”

“John Yoo is a brilliant lawyer and legal scholar…”

“His [John Yoo’s] story is a terrific story in terms of immigrant parents coming to America…”

“He is an internationally recognized constitutional scholar…he appears in the NY Times, Wall Street Journal…” [On why the Inquirer chose to feature JY as a regular columnist.]

“We have really been excited about finding people who have an international present…but have a local presence as well…for instance Lisa Scottoline” [On why John Yoo is a real Philadelphian.]

“He [John Yoo] hasn’t been indicted and convicted…”

“I want to be blunt with you – in terms of the amount of traffic that I’ve received on this issue – there’s not been a huge amount of mail…”

“I want them to paint in the boldest possible colors…” [Regarding the Inky/DN bloggers/columnists]

“I want every person to love certain things and absolutely hate certain things.” [Regarding the Inquirer’s editorial page.”

SEPTA Girl: Beginnings

Last Friday’s SEPTA Girl article:

“Perhaps it’s best to start at the beginning. When I was a girl of three, I lived with my parents and my older brother in the first floor of a row house on South Farragut Street in West Philadelphia. Occasionally, when my father was using the family’s orange VW Beetle or when my mom didn’t feel like driving, she would take me and my older brother on the Girard Avenue Trolley (Route 15).”

It’ll be perfect, since all of my degrees are in dog walking.

/This post commandeered by guest blogger Don Bito//who by the way wants to remind you to send your latest sources of pop music shame to wegotthebits@gmail.com and see your pick in big internet lights this Friday/

All right, so this post, cleverly entitled “PET SITTERS NEEDED” has been up on Philly’s Craigslist for like a year now. I wonder why they haven’t filled the positions?

OH YEAH BECAUSE THEY HAVE AS MANY REQUIREMENTS AS THE FBI.

But my favorite is this one:

Be looking for long term, permanent work. This is not the job for someone looking for any job until something “better” comes along.

Hell, I can name a dozen people off the top of my head who dream of becoming career pet sitters. I mean, come on: $15/hour, part-time, no benefits and a “go-with-the-flow” schedule including nights, weekends and holidays really sets one up for retirement. I can just picture the blessed few who qualify for this job bending over to pick up a steaming fresh dog turd at 3am on Thanksgiving Day, and thinking to themselves:

Here I am. I’ve really made it.

Can I be your roommate?

Guest blogger TB is looking for a roommate. Takers?

Holy shit look at this guy’s pad!

So this guy’s wife is like, “You’re too much of a nerd, bye!”

And this guy’s like, “Whatever bitch. I’m gonna make a kick-ass bachelors pad and have unprotected sex with green women.”

And this is what happened!

Does Your Pop Music Suck? No Means No.

This week is our first Throwback Week, featuring 1,2,3 Red Light by 1910 Fruitgum Company, circa 1968.

Skip to 1:10 to hear the song – I just chose this video so you could get a little taste of the redonk, live from the studio. Plus I can’t resist those rockin’ literal flashing red traffic lights. It’s a nice touch, however subtle.

OMFG, where to start? Continue reading

Daddy ate my eyes…

ugh
Guest blogger TB on a recent tragedy in Cali…

In Bakersfield, California a man came home and mutilated his 4 yr old son leaving him unconscious and bleeding profusely. When inspected by doctors they found that one of his eyes and the surrounding muscle were missing and the other eye was damaged beyond repair. Neighbors found the boy lying naked on the floor bleeding heavily with bite marks on his hands. When the boy was questioned about what had happened he replied, “My daddy ate my eyes out.”

They found the boy’s father, 34-year-old Angelo Mendoza, high on PCP in a nearby back yard chained to a tree trying to hack his legs off with an ax.

Once they process this asshole into a prison he will get what he deserves. News will spread to all the other inmates and only god knows what they will have in store for this piece of shit. What is this world coming to?

Presidential Material

Guest blogger TB on politician Jesse Ventura…

Jesse Ventura is pretty cool. I always thought he was some meat head thatgot elected for Governor because people were scared of being body slammed but that’s not the case evidently. And yes, he is for decriminalizing marijuana but that’s not the only reason why I think he’s such a swell guy. He has an uncanny ability to just “tell it like it is”, which doesn’t sound so amazing but when you look at all the politicians out there who (for whatever reason) can’t or won’t “tell it like it is” it makes me wonder… why isn’t this guy running for president?

Here’s a clip of him being interviewed my Geraldo Rivera on marijuana.

Who watches the Watchmen?

Guest blogger TB on police officers…

I guess a security camera watches the watchmen. And by watchmen I mean the police. I’ve been treated like shit by police on more than one occasion so my views on law enforcement are extremely jaded. I’ll admit some of the times I deserved it but most of the physical and verbal (and yes racial abuse too) were uncalled for. Now I know there are good police officers out there but shit, I can’t see them anywhere. So fuck all of them. Yea that might sound a bit harsh considering recent events but whatever I have my reasons.

My biggest issue is when one of them fucks up and acts like the corrupt pigs that they are the whole gang covers for them. What separates them from a street gang? Oh yea a corrupt governments approval and a shitty badge. Now I’m not saying they should all die but if they did their job a little bit better and actually used their common sense instead of acting like a bunch of malfunctioning ignorant robots then maybe I would feel a tiny hint of sadness when one of them does go down.

Not beating up 15 yr old girls would be a nice start
